Exhibition "Powerful Forces"
Hello,
The exhibition at The Michael Heseltine Gallery has been open for three weeks and we have now have just two weeks until it closes on Thursday 13th of February.
I thought I would share some of my images of the exhibition which I have shown on my facebook
page.
I will be there the next two Sundays with the sculptor George Wagstaffe ( we are open 10.00am until 4.00pm)
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday 9.00am until 5.00pm.
I managed just about to get through the opening despite a heavy cold, I think the adrenaline got me through it!
Just to let you know I will not be exhibiting at the NEC this year despite one of my stitched pieces featuring on the front of The Fashion Embroidery Stitch leaflets!!
They took the image when I was at the show last year.
I decided I wanted to spend more time on my work so I had something new to show another year and also I had other commitments.

"Powerful Forces" New Exhibition Opening Soon.
Hello,
I hope you have had a peaceful Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.
We have had a very busy few days catching up with family, one of my sisters has been living in Bangalore in India for the last six months with her husband and three children.
It's been wonderful to see them and to listen to their stories of India.
Sadly they are only here until the New Year, the next time I will see them will be at my younger sisters wedding at the end of May!
I have also been finishing off pieces for a new exhibition of my work which opens on the 9th of January 2014 at The Michael Heseltine Gallery, Chenderit School an arts College in Middleton Cheaney near Banbury.
I will be exhibiting with the sculptor George Wagstaffe , you will find his public works in the City of Coventry.
The following is the press release with information about the exhibition.
An exhibition of work by Michala Gyetvai and George Wagstaffe.Michala will be showing her large textiles, drawings and paintings. This follows her successful solo show at the Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry in 2011/12.Her work shows the passion for blankets and threads she uses and for the landscape she interprets. These powerful, three- dimensional images remain with the observer long after the initial viewing.
George wagstaffe will be showing a selection of his sculptures, mainly in bronze. These works, though complete in themselves, relate thematically to commissions completed during a long career, in particular to the early commissions for the City of Coventry in the 1960s. Whilst the work of the two artists remains separate and distinctive, there is a shared concern to explore together those unseen forces that continue to determine the human condition. The exhibition is housed in the Michael Heseltine gallery, Chenderit School, Middleton Cheney, from the 9th January 2014 to the 13th February. The artists will be giving a brief introduction to the exhibition on the opening evening and will be on site to talk to visitors each Sunday from 2.00pm until 4.00pm.
We still have quite a busy time ahead, wrapping works and two days of setting up.
If you live near and are interested in either textiles, painting or sculpture do come and visit.
I plan to be at the Gallery on the Sunday afternoons, no doubt stitching!
Have a Happy New Year!
Michala

Sea Pictures
At the moment, I am working directly from my sketch book, which is filled with observations of studies I have made of the Mediterranean sea.
Listening to Elgar's "Sea Pictures" and Debussy's "La Mer" I am transported back to the shoreline, using all my senses I can see and feel the shapes in the music.
I will be working on this piece during Warwickshire Open Studios at the end of June, where I will be exhibiting along side the artist George Wagstaffe.

New Year & New Work
This piece entitled "Snow on Snow" is inspired by the poem In The Bleak Mid Winter by Christina Rossetti.
I made many sketches after a walk in the snow over the fields near us, which then led to a painting.
The work above measuring 45cm x 63cm has taken hours of stitching and includes many different threads with fibres.
In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago.
I will be exhibiting this work at The Fashion Embroidery Stitch Show in March as part of my British Romantic Landscape display.
You can find more details about the event here http://www.ichf.co.uk/fashion/
My sketch book is filling up with new ideas and figures which are growing out of my landscapes, you can see more of these here http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaylacoo/
Best Wishes for The New Year!

Final Preparations!
Only a few weeks until my exhibition opens and you can now find more information on The Herbert Art Gallery website here.
I will also be giving a free tour and talk about my work at the exhibition, you can find out about booking a place by looking here .
I'm also very excited to say I will be running two workshops at the gallery entitled" Landscapes In Threads" starting on Saturday 7th of January.
This will be an opportunity to develop your own drawings through experimentation in your sketch book, learning how to translate it into stitch by using hand and machine work.
You will be able to play with many different colours, textures, fibres and threads, exploring there endless possibilities!
Booking is essential as places are limited, click here for details on how to book.
Looking forward to seeing you there if you can make it.

Working For The Exhibition
Another piece finished, smaller this time 28cm by 36cm although when framed it will be of course larger.
Inspired by the trees, near a small village where I live, their beautiful roots exposed and entwined.
I have a very busy a week ahead with school, I am working with the A'level art students which is very exciting for me.
There are lots of new displays to put up and many projects to sort out, not to mention all the stitching I have to do when I get home!
My children also start back and for one of them it will be their GCSE year, how did that come around so quickly?
Bye for now M x

August Stitching
We have had so much rain this August, I can count on one hand the dry sunny days we have had.
It rained here for at least 48 hours non stop this week, so apart from taking the dog out we stayed in, this gave me time to work on my handmade felt, stitching my "August Walk" landscape.
If we get a dry day we hope to go blackberry picking, it looks like a good year which is maybe because of our wet August!
Before I forget I must say thank you to Twiglet for her blog award.
P.S If you click the image you can see the whole picture, I have uploaded the extra large size but it won't fit on the page!

Exhibitions & Cotton Reels

Hello,
I had some exciting new this week, when I found out that one of my embroideries has been selected for the 2010 Open exhibition, at The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry
I did enter my larger piece which was not selected but luckily this one above of Abbey Fields, a park near where I live was chosen.
The opening night is on April 1st and the exhibition ends June 13th.
Today I have been at The Sewing For Pleasure Show at the NEC, I had a great time and saw so many people I knew.
Hello to Judy a fellow stitching friend, who has not got a blog yet, but should have one!
If you are going to the show, say hello to Kathy on the Embroiderers Guild magazine stand, who is very kindly displaying my work again.
There was so many inspiring textile works on display, including a display of work from the book, Inspired to Stitch by Diana Springall.
I loved looking at the Oscar winning costumes from the film 'The Duchess' starring Keira Knightly and Ralph Fiennes.
I have many old wooden cotton reels as I can't bare to throw them away.
I know I'm a bit strange but my life revolves around threads, so I have painted my own landscape on one of them, I think I may need to get some smaller brushes!

Art Exhibition

Hello, I just wanted to share these photographs from our annual school and community art exhibition.
I'm sure you will agree that the quality of drawing and sculpture would not be out of place in a private gallery or museum, well I am biased!
I enjoy so much working with the students and community artists.
I am also very privileged to work with the artist and sculptor George Wagstaffe who teaches our A'level students and life drawing class. You will find his sculptures in the City of Coventry.
This is just a small selection of the work by his students.
I will post more pictures over the next few days.
I forgot to say, I sold the tree embroidery I did from my last post.

Exhibition Pictures

A Section Of Annabel's Quilt

Hello,
I have a few pictures to show you from the exhibition.
I have been lucky to sell quite a few of my tree brooches and cards.
Annabel in contrast to me works big and she sold some of her beautiful wall quilts and lots more besides.
We are open for our last day tomorrow 12 until 4.
So it has been a worth while experience to gain interest in our work, although I said to Annabel I couldn't stop myself making things even if no one bought them, you would find me buried under a pile of tree brooches and painting.
I'm fortunate that Leamington Art Gallery would like to sell my brooches so I will have an excuse to make more!
I'm so sorry about the spacing on this post.
I can't seem to put it right and I'm scared I will end up deleting everything!

Surreal Embroidery

Here are some more colourful trees I have been working on for the exhibition.
I have been dip dying various wool pieces, I'm always excited at seeing the variety of colours I can get by using just a few colours.
I have worked in some lovely old silk threads on these little trees.
On Monday I will be in Stratford to help get the exhibition ready, it starts on Tuesday 9th of June.
How quickly that date has come around!
I'm just a touch nervous, hoping it will be enjoyed.
I must say thank you to Annabel Rainbow because without her I would not have been able to take part and she will be manning it with her friend and fellow artist Annabel Shirt.
I won't be there until the Saturday and the Sunday.
I promise to take lots of pictures.

Work For The Exhibition

I thought you may like to see the place where I will be exhibiting my work, along side two other textile artists, from June 9th until June 14th.
It's open 10am until 4pm and 12pm until 4pm on the Sunday.
It will be in the public library in Stratford -Upon- Avon, a wonderful Tudor building, late 15th century.
You can find out more here.
I have not had time to put any work in my etsy shop as I have been working towards this exhibition, so if I don't sell anything at least I will have a full shop at the end of June!
I had better get back to my stitching!

Exhibition News
From 9th of June to the 14th June I have been invited to take part in a small exhibition in Stratford Upon Avon by talented artist's Annabel Rainbow and her friend Annabel Shirt.
It is in the Library exhibition room almost next door to Shakespeare's Birth Place.
So if anyone fancies a day out to Stratford and they want to pop in , or go for a cuppa, do come and say hello!
I hope to be there at the weekend and hopefully another day so I will let you know nearer the time.
As you can see I have started work, Oh! I have just noticed my empty sherry glass in the photo.
Talking of which, you should take a peek at the inspirational Hens Teeth, Viv is having a give away for a year of blogging.
If you read it you will get the connection with the sherry glass...
