Selected

Yesterday I was very excited in fact jumping around the room excited!
My daughter raised her eyebrows and looked at me as if to say, who is this mad woman?

On Thursday I took two of my embroideries to Open 2009 at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum.
This event is for anyone who lives in the West Midlands and work is selected by a panel of judges.

My handmade felt picture of a field was chosen.
You may remember it, here it is, as I was working on it.

I have just realized I have not taken a picture of it completed!

It will be at Leamington Art Gallery from the 5th of June until 2nd August, you can find more details HERE.
It is the most beautiful day here, I do hope you will have a lovely sunny weekend.x

Wearable Art

It's been cold and wet here today and it's been one of those day's that don't quite go according to plan!
Firstly, I get a call from our local leisure centre to say are you coming to do ' crafty kids' ?
Maybe I had made a mistake, I have been busy.
They had six children waiting, so I cancel my plans and jump in the car, luckily it's just around the corner, it turns out they had forgotten to book me.
We made giant butterflies and paper puppets on straws, talk about quick thinking!

Then I rush home to drop my children off at the cinema, to see 'Night at the Museum'.
I only just get back home and get a call from my daughter, to say they couldn't get in as it was fully booked.

Oh dear, so it was back in the car to pick them up again.
So I have not managed much sewing today.

I did finish this brooch last night, it looks great on my black coat, it's for the exhibition but now I want to keep it !
I hope your having a good week.x
P.S
I ordered some more moo postcards, family and friends had most of the last lot!
So I am listing more on etsy.

An Early Morning

I have never won anything so I was very excited when I found out I had won these lovely craft items and hand made textile tags, and note book from http://heloise-jewellery.blogspot.com/
A fellow stitcher always knows how exciting it is to receive a parcel like this!
Thank you so much.

Today at 6.00am I crawled out of bed to take our dog Bertie for a walk through Abbey Fields.
It was a sunny morning and I had to take some pictures to share with you.
This time of year is so beautiful, new green fresh leaves, the smell of newly mown grass and the warmth of the early morning sun.
I also have been stitching these new colourful brooches with some vivid silk threads, how I love the colours!
I must also say another thank you to http://juliacrossland.blogspot.com/ for a blog award.
We have school half term holidays next week, yipee!
I think the dog may have to get used to sleeping in!

Work For The Exhibition

Hello,
I thought you may like to see the place where I will be exhibiting my work, along side two other textile artists, from June 9th until June 14th.
It's open 10am until 4pm and 12pm until 4pm on the Sunday.
It will be in the public library in Stratford -Upon- Avon, a wonderful Tudor building, late 15th century.
You can find out more here.
I have not had time to put any work in my etsy shop as I have been working towards this exhibition, so if I don't sell anything at least I will have a full shop at the end of June!
I had better get back to my stitching!

Patterns In The Sky

Hello,

We have had a busy week, my husband started a new job, at last!
My son has had sats tests all this week, he is in his last term of primary school.
A time for reflection, looking at his school photo's, where has that time gone?
I sketched the tree in our garden on Saturday, I hope to work this as a stitched piece.

The Patterns In The Sky is a new little picture, the weather this week inspired me, bright and windy although today was rubbish, dull, grey and cold.

Shopping List Saturday Late!

So sorry that I missed my yesterday 's post.

I am fascinated by artist's who use text in their work and here are some examples I have found from talented etsy sellers.
1. The work of Mariann Johansen-Ellis is available in her etsy shop oneline.
It's full of detailed drawings on book pages and other interesting works.
2.photorelativity art is a combination of text, fabric, wood and photography.
I liked how she has mixed the text and musical notes in this work Acoustics.
3.cloveandair is gabrielle's shop and she has worked on stretched canvas for this piece our resistance is quiet but lyrical.
4.I loved this journal pillow by girlgonethreadwild.
Quote reads "Think" and there are only two ways to live your life.. one is as though nothing is a MIRACLE. The other is as if EVERYTHING is.
In May 10% of all her sales will go to fight against breast cancer.
Thanks to Charlotte at fancypicnic who started Shopping List Saturday, you can find more blogs participating by visiting her blog .
Hope you have a great week.x

A Magic Land

My colours this week have filtered from one piece to another.
Firstly my winged creature which initially inspired my colour pallet, it started with the shimmering turquoise wings.
Then I moved on to my tree brooch which is a commissioned piece, then following that my landscape.
I have a few more commissioned pieces to finish and then hopefully I can get some painting done.
I hope to bring you Shopping List Saturday tomorrow evening.
Have a great weekend.x

I Wish I Could Fly

I have had quite a busy few days, stitching these little trees.
Also I have visited the Edward Burne-Jones exhibition at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery Edward Burne-Jones-Perseus Series
The museum has, in addition, many Pre-Raphaelite paintings.
The stories behind the paintings are fascinating, you can read more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Raphaelite_Brotherhood
Inspired by my visit, I have started on my own winged creature.
Hope to bring you more soon, have a great weekend.
