These are not my dolls, although I do wish they were,they are my Mums which she found recently.
She thinks the larger doll is 1930's, the smaller 1950's, if any one knows any different do let me know.
I love the colours and embroidery on their clothes.
The pottery leaf print I purchased from a friend who is very creative and paints the most wonderful watercolours too.
I felt inspired by these oriental themes and this led to my new brooch, I used some pure silk threads in that wonderful jade green.
I have used quite a lot of hand stitching in this piece as it is such therapy to me and I love blending the colours of my little seed stitches.
The sun is shining and I need to get out and do some gardening.

Hi, I was born in 1954 and had a MALE doll very similar in style to your mum's bigger one, when I was about6 or 7. He had a painted china face, china hands, but a stuffed fabric body. He also had painted chinese hair, but from the centre back of the top of his head hung a real hair plait. His clothes were absolutely exquisite, beautifully made in incredible detail. Regards, Cathy

I am going to say that these are not Japanese, but the larger one is Chinese. Having never seen a Korean doll, I do not know if the male is Chinese or Korean. These are lovely.
It really does look oriental. Aren't you clver. I love it.

As for that Stitching show - I meant to say that I must have gotten something wrong somewhere along the line, when I saw it advertised on the tv much later than expected...?
The brooch is, as they all are, gorgeous. I know just what you mean about hand stitching being relaxing in a way that machine stitching just isn't. x
