Did you see the wonderful art programme on the BBC last Sunday, Modern Masters, featuring the work of Matisse?
If you didn't manage to see it, it's available to view on iplayer.
See here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00sfsnd/hd/Modern_Masters_Matisse/
I was fascinated to learn how Matisse developed his work and how it changed dramatically when he moved to the South of France.
Influenced by the startling bright colours of the Cote d'Azure he revolutionized the way artists used colour.
This programme is a series of four, I have yet to see the first about Andy Warhol and I'm looking forward to seeing the next on Picasso.
So this piece is inspired by the way Matisse used colour in a Kayla coo kind of way!

I certainly did. Matisse is a legend isn't he! I love his stained glass and the chapel. I can completely relate to the fact that a non religious person could invest that much time and energy into something religious for another person. He had a lot of respect and selflessy thought about the best way to show his gratitude to the nun that cared for him.
I love your new brooch.
Did you see genius design? It is still on catch up if you missed it.
Quelle jolie surprise au détour d'un blog ! J'aime beaucoup ces "pastilles", surtout celle de Matisse que je trouve riche en couleurs...
So cut !
Yes, I enjoyed the programme very much. The new brooch is fabulous.
Beautiful! I love Matisse too. Who doesn't?
Matisse has not featured much in my education so far-you have inspired me to go and do some research. Lovely brooch-matisse inspired but still very "you".
I saw it, I saw it! Thanks to you.
This is lovely work, I do wish I had more time to make at the moment, but I guess it will come . . .
If this comes through twice it is because the first time it said there was an error!

I didn't see the program unfortunately but I have to say that your latest work seems to have captured the essence of those colours you mentioned very well - the blue really sets alight all the others, its wonderful!

I haven't seen the program on Matisse but it sounds very interesting, shall have to keep an eye out for it
Hello Kayla Coo. your Matisse impression is lovely and bright. I love it. Hugs Judy
Haven't seen the show yet, it will eventually run over here, but certainly know that you have captured the spirit of it in your stitches.
Thank you for these summer colors! Your trees are always fascinating.
Unable to watch the BBC program if you do
not reside in the UK! Bad....Matisse was born in the North of France like me ;-)
I think I saw those programmes are they repeats? I loved them, there was also a wonderful programme about Van Gough recently that was fab, they all had such sad lives and never knew their worth...
i love the large red stitches in concentric circles around the sun -- you keep finding ways to vary these pieces in unexpected and lovely ways!
yes, each one has been very good. I like you take on his work too, or maybe its just the sun shining for once! Either way it is very Kayla Coo.
Oh yes I saw it too, it's been a lovely series and I really enjoyed it and shall miss it now it's over.
I love the little drawings that Andy Warhole did early on in his career, so delicate.
