Embroidery In Progress

It's been a busy week, my children's parents evenings, staying late to help students with project work and helping out on a visit to Sewing For Pleasure exhibition, with twenty GCSE textile students.

All of them had a great time and loved the work shops, learning new skills.
The Knitting Association gave free lessons and this proved very popular with the students as they were given a free ball of wool and knitting needles.
I had to smile as three of them were knitting on the bus, while on the way back to school!
I have been working on these embroideries this week.
Another brooch and this landscape Trees In My Dreams.
I do hope you have a lovely weekend.

Tree Pattern Brooches

I love playing with pattern and yesterday I made these tree brooches.
I still have to finish the backs so a bit more sewing to go.
Looking out the window it seems to be a good day to stay in , we have dark clouds, high winds and rain.
I was going to try and get some gardening done, never mind it looks like I may just have to stitch instead!

A Landscape Of Stitches

As you can see my sketch book is always used for exploring line, colour, composition and just experimenting and having fun!
It's useful to record all my visual thoughts.
By working the stitches on to the boiled wool I was able to create furrows in the land.
The sketches I use as a guide, I will change aspects and develop pieces as I progress.
I do get frustrated some times, as I just wish I had more time to devote to my art work.
I'm sure I am not alone in this!
I had better get back to my sketching.
Hope your having a good week.

Blossom Brooches

Sold

Sold

Over the weekend I made these brooches.
My starting point was pictures of tree blossoms and I played around with different views.
I settled on this angle, as if I was sitting in the branches!
They almost became abstract in design and definitely a Japanese feel to them.
I have also started on a another landscape embroidery which I hope to show you in the week.

Spring Snow

It's been lovely to have your comments in the last post, thank you.
I have been busy working on this embroidery over the last few days.
You can see I have enjoyed playing with the patterns in this landscape.
I have propped it up against the sewing machine so you can get an idea of size.
I do love artist's who use pattern in their work.
One artist that I admire, among many, is John Piper
John Piper designed the Baptistery Window at Coventry Cathedral, a representation of the holy spirit.
If you have time, do look at his gallery of work, he was a man of many talents.
