Hello, I hope you have been enjoying holidays and all the beautiful weather we have had recently. I have spent time in Italy, filling my sketchbook with new work and time in my studio at Ragley Hall stitching. You can also find more of my images on my face book page. I thought I would share with you events you may be interested in. On the 7th and 14th of September I will be running a workshop to coincide with the Constable and Turner exhibition at Compton Verney. You will develop your sketch book work and go out into the landscape to draw or paint. We will also look at other media including stitch and textiles, it will be a great opportunity for you to experiment ! Please contact Compton Verney to book your place. On September 21st I will be at the free event Sew Saturday at the beautiful Dorchester Abbey, Dorchester On Thames in Oxfordshire. I will be demonstrating during the day and presenting a talk about my work at 2pm. Below is information on what is happening during this stitch filled day! Sew Saturday 10am – 4pm – Have a go at the ‘Create a Floor’ group display: create a piece of embroidery to be put together in a mass display to be exhibited in the Abbey at its completion. The inspiration for this is the Abbey’s ‘patchwork’ flooring – look closely and see what you can find! 10am – 4pm – Visit the Abbey mixed media textiles display (i.e. lectern and pulpit falls, High Altar fall and celebration vestments) by Helyne Jennings. 10am – 4pm – Visit the Linus Quilts display: see a range of quilts created for the Linus Quilts Charity and discover more about their work. 10am – 2pm – Demonstrations by Oxfordshire Embroiderers’ Guild Members: watch guild members in various locations throughout the Abbey demonstrate various stitching techniques from the traditional to mixed media. Be inspired to create your own piece with the materials available or find out more about the Guild, their work and activities. 2pm – 4pm – Find out more about Dorchester Abbey’s history: Abbey stewards will be on hand to answer questions and give very brief tours. 11am – 12noon – Talk by Helen Russell on the commissioned mixed media textile work (i.e. lectern and pulpit falls, High Altar fall and celebration vestments) for the Abbey by Helyne Jennings. 2pm – 3pm – Talk by Michala Gyetvai, mixed media textile artist 3pm – 4pm – Talk by Suellen Pedley, ecclesiastical embroiderer Apparently Dorchester Abbey is famous for its tea rooms with homemade cakes! If you require any further information on the above events, do not hesitate to get in touch. I'm also very pleased to announce that I have been invited to exhibit with the International quilt group "Through Our Hands" If you visit their website you will find information on all the talented artists taking part. Best wishes Michala |
