Painting, Creating And Stitching!

Last week I managed a few sketches and a painting in my sketch book.
I seem to have a fixation with dramatic skies, perhaps it's because our skies are very flat and grey at the moment.

The painting did start out as painting paper for a work shop I 'm going on next Saturday week.
It's a mixed media work shop and I have a huge list of things I need to take!
I have also been invited to take part in an altered book group local to me.

This, I might add is all new to me and I am hoping the work shop will help me in some of the processes you have to use.

We have nine members in the group and each has a book with which they pass on after they have decorated two pages in mixed media.
Each person has a different theme and at the end you will have nine different interpretations of your chosen subject in your book.
My chosen subject is The 1920's, I decorate the cover and first page and then it gets passed to the next person on the list.....I hope you get the idea.

At the end we meet for lunch ( looking forward to that bit) and get our books back, which will be sometime in November.... so should have time to fit it in, fingers crossed.
We hope then to have the books displayed in an exhibition.

I have been playing with ideas for my front cover by drawing my 1920's lady in thread, still lots of experimenting to do.
I will be adding some hand stitching to the front of her dress, I think, I have started with the loop for detached button hole.
Leaf tree is another tree brooch I made in the week, which I will add to my etsy shop....soon
Now I must thank Maria of http://creativebumblebee.blogspot.com/ for two awards and also Leigh http://leighshepherd.blogspot.com/ for another. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my blog.
Bye for now.x

That altered book idea is really interesting isn't it? I blog with one or two artists in US who do it and I am quite keen to have a go myself, so shall be interested to hear how you get on.

Lovely all, painting, brooch and lady in threads. I look at your shop here and there. I will buy a brooch one day. I love what you have, but am waiting for the one that calls to me. Which might be this one or the peachy one.... just waiting, so much fun.

All lovely, the detail in the embroidered 1920's lady is amazing. Enjoy your workshop and working on the altered book.

What an exciting project to be taking part in. I love that painting too-reminds me of Van Gogh.

I love your dramatic skies! You've got such movement and freedom in them. Enjoy your altered books. I'm finding them really great fun and much better than a conventional sketch book.

If you decide you're enjoying them, why not get together and do more? I have set myself the task of trying to do about 9 by July, but have only finished 3. Could do with some company and stimulus!!

Wow, absolutely LOVE the 1920's lady. Did you paint her before you began the stitch work?

I do like that idea of working in a book and passing it on. I suggested it at my art club some time ago but couldn't get any takers. Maybe I'll try again. Hope you have fun with yours.

The dramatic sky is great. I enjoy altering books although I seem to have come to a bit of a standstill with my 3rd one.

The 1920s lady is great, and very different to what we normally see of your work! How did you prep this piece - did you paint the fabric or draw an outline?

Love the dramatic painting and the tree brooch. The altered book course sounds great - I'm sure you will enjoy it. I have dabbled myself and as far as I can see, there are no rules (unless you are part of a group and make your own). It's great fun and you are limited only by your skill and imagination. Don't forget to show us the results, please.
