Abstract Stitching & Sketching

Here are a few more brooches to share with you, these are stitched again as I would paint, lots of small stitches dancing,flowing and creating rhythms of colour.

As we have had a few sunny days, I managed to do some drawing in our local park, with dog, son, husband and rugby ball!
I found a shelterd spot to sit in the sunshine and sketched very quickly,these drawings may develope into paintings.

Tomorrow I am off to London to stay with my sister,I'm so excited!
We are planning a visit to Spitterfields Market on Thursday as it has lots of antique stalls on that day and I think it has vintage clothing too.
Also to visit, if we can get in, the http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/vangogh/ to see the Van Gogh exhibition.

Still Life Stitching

Yesterday we had snow, it started about 1.00pm and fell steadily into the early hours of the morning.

Today, at least, we have had sunshine which has meant a beautiful bright light as the sun reflects on the snow.

I have been playing with my fabrics and threads for my miniature still life pictures.

Here is a still life in my sketch book , I may use this for a larger stitched textile piece.

For sometime I have considered how I could make my landscapes integrate with my still life sketches, so now my land is the table cloth, my vase the trunk of my tree and the flowers become my leaves and branches.

I try and imagine that I'm walking in this landscape, as if I'm a character from 'The borrowers' by Mary Norton. This would be so much fun, although not if I got lost in my thread pile!

Painted Stitches

The next stage of working is painting.

So this is a painting I have been working on along side my textile work.

Again the light is so dim , nearly dark! when I took these pictures.

Painting With Threads

Just a quick post to show how my embroidery is coming along.

I wanted to use the strong , rich colours from my painting so I have embellished pure silk on to the wool felt.

I wish you could see the lustre of the silk , it is so beautiful to use.

It measures 10cm x 13cm.

A few more stitches to add and then it will be finished.

I did the original painting in Italy, a wonderful place called Alassio.

Dusted!

Today I actually did some dusting, I know it's amazing when I have so much stitching and painting to do!

Here I am on the mantle piece , yes the black and white photo!

Taken about 1969.

Not sure I'm brave enough to show a picture now, but maybe I should as I'm only going to look less young the longer I leave it.

Note I say less young, sounds better than older!

Now I know I'm getting older, when my thirteen year old daughter comes home with her new purchase ....Leg Warmers! they are all the rage apparently.

I have been working on this small art piece 8cm x 8cm approx.

My larger embroideries take months of work so I'm trying out different ideas using my paintings as inspiration.

I may add a few to etsy and see if any one would be interested.

I will be working on some ideas from this painting next.

So hope to have some thing new to show you soon.

It's been raining here most of the day so a good day to be creative.

Here are a few more.

This work was inspired by looking at the surface of shells, when you study them, draw them, feel them.

I wanted to show the texture and all the subtle variations of colour.

I then decided to incorporate some of the shells into the fabric, binding them with threads.

I was also working on a few brooches at the weekend, adding different fabrics onto the wool and machine stitching.

This I confess to making while I was expecting my daughter who is now 13!
